About Midlothian
Called DFW's Southern Star, Midlothian has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s when this enclave in the Republic of Texas was called Peter's Colony. Those settlers profited by trapping and trading, as well as farming and cattle ranching. The name Midlothian reportedly came from a homesick Scottish train engineer who observed how much the area resembled his homeland. Midlothian was officially incorporated as part of Ellis County in 1888. Today, the area's largest employers are the three cement plants built to utilize this natural resource. Residents here also benefit from two excellent local medical centers, regional airport, 11 parks, 15 schools, a golf course, nearby Joe Pool Lake and Navarro College. As Midlothian prospers, city planners ensure that the community retains the small-town charm that makes it unique.
