About Wilmer
Originally settled by Andrew K. Gray before 1850, Wilmer was called Prairie Valley. After the railroad and post office were established, Wilmer was named after a conductor on the rail line. 1890 saw the population reach 100 as well as the opening of several stores and businesses. When Wilmer was incorporated in 1945, the city elected its first mayor, J. H. May. May was elected on a platform of installing a water system for the community. Soon, a volunteer fire department was established, and Hutchins consolidated their schools with the city. Today, Wilmer is one of the smallest incorporated cities in Dallas County.
